Data Acquisition

Data Acquisition

The output from each test is the pressure, temperature and data recorded at each condition. There is an in-house logging capability available to generate spreadsheets summarising every engine run.

Pressure measurement

Temperature measurement

Approximately 200 thermocouple readers (K and N type) are integrated into the 1Hz logger system. An additional 32 N type thermocouples can be logged at up to 40Hz.

Thrust and mass flow

  • Mass flows calculated from either orifice meter or averaging pitot measurements
  • Most engine rig frames have axial and pitch load cells for thrust measurement
  • Two 6-axis load cells are available for direct test article thrust measurement

Traverse positioning

It is important to produce an accurate 3D map of an exhaust flowfield to compare against CFD simulations. The traverse rig allows pitot and temperature probes to be inserted into the exhaust at moved to specific locations throughout a run. The traverse is controlled from S & C’s logging software and can be operated remotely via an ethernet connection.

Specifications
